Nicolas Minder is a colorist from Bern, Switzerland, with a clear focus on the emotional, psychological, and narrative power of color. His work is characterized by a keen sense of visual storytelling, technical precision, and close, creative collaboration with directors and DoPs.
His professional career began with an apprenticeship as a chef. He transitioned into the film industry with an intensive internship at Montezuma Film in Zurich. There, he worked for several years as a cameraman, editor, and colorist, gaining extensive practical experience in all areas of cinematography and storytelling.
In 2021, he founded Nicolas Minder Filmproduktion and has since worked as a freelance colorist on a wide range of projects, from commercials and music videos to documentaries and short films. At the heart of his work is always the question: How can color help enhance emotions, shape moods, and visually support the story?
Since 2024 he has been passing on his knowledge as a course instructor at the Nikon School Switzerland (in cooperation with Schweizer AG).
He deepened his professional expertise through training with internationally renowned colorists such as Walter Volpatto, Cullen Kelly, and Dado Valentic. He also maintains a continuous exchange with colorists from around the world and continues his education through self-study.
Through his previous work as a camera assistant, he has a solid technical understanding of the entire image pipeline, from the incidence of light on the sensor to the finished master. He also works with immersive media formats and, together with Sandro Zollinger, operates a mobile virtual reality cinema that opens up new perspectives on narrative experience.
